Energy Assessments for new homes, renovations and extensions

Every new build in Tasmania needs an energy assessment.

Whether you simply want to achieve the minimum 6 stars, or you want to ensure your home is made to withstand the Tasmanian winter in comfort - we can help.

Energy efficiency assessments are required in Australia to demonstrate compliance with the National Construction Code (NCC). In most parts of Australia a minimum rating of 6 stars is required. A Thermal performance assessor (TPA) is someone qualified to complete this assessment.

An assessment and guidance from a TPA can also generate far greater results than just compliance with the NCC. Consulting a TPA at beginning of a build can increase the star rating while minimising the costs of making alterations later in the planning/construction process.

It can result in a more energy efficient home - one that is comfortable to live in even in a Tasmanian winter – without having to spend excessively on wood, gas or electricity to keep warm!

Consulting a TPA can also result in decreased greenhouse gas emissions, as heating and cooling a home are responsible for the majority of household energy use.

The what and why.

Under the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) a TPA generates a star rating for your home by using house plans and building specifications to assess its estimated energy use.

All the information is entered into an accredited software tool which calculates the amount of energy that will be needed to heat or cool a home to a comfortable level - which is what the star rating is based on.

The assessment will include information like:

-        Floor, wall and ceiling construction

-        Insulation

-        The orientation of the house

-        Windows/glazing

-        Shade from fences, neighbours and other buildings

-        Ceiling penetrations

The how.
