Jake de Hoog and Mel Bultman are both qualified thermal performance assessors and members of Design Matters National.

They’ve both completed a Cert IV in Housing sustainability and energy assessment, and are accredited in First Rate 5 and Hero Software use.

They’ve had experience in working for construction companies focused on large scale residential homes as well as consulting for individuals, architects and designers on individual projects.

Mel and Jake became interested in energy assessment when they went through the process of building their own homes 5 years ago. Jake built a solar passive reverse brick veneer home while Mel and her husband built an energy efficient straw bale house. Both of them are passionate about the benefits of using solar passive design principles and building energy efficient homes because they have personally experienced the benefits of living in one!
